Transplant Resource Services

Our Clinical Sciences Institute evaluates transplant programs throughout the U.S. Only those transplant programs that meet our strict Centers of Excellence criteria are considered for inclusion in the Transplant Centers of Excellence Network. Programs are reevaluated each year to assure they continue to meet the standards for which they were originally selected.

Two Centers of Excellence Networks for Transplants

Because adults and children have significantly different needs when it comes to transplants, we have  developed a subset of the Transplant Network: The Pediatric Transplant Centers of Excellence Network. Transplant programs in the Pediatric Network are selected according to criteria that have been adjusted to reflect the overall volume and unique complexity associated with pediatric transplants.

Congenital Heart Disease

Out of every million people, 40 are born with a severe form of congenital heart disease (CHD) - an "abnormality" caused by the incorrect development of the heart or blood vessels near the heart. Usually discovered during pregnancy, infancy or childhood; CHD is a complex condition that often requires multiple surgical procedures or heart transplantation.

The CHD network provides the only specialized contracting methodology to address CHD surgical episodes. Our Congenital Heart Disease Resource Services (CHDRS) product matches CHD patients and their families with the select few health care professionals qualified to perform intricate CHD procedures.

Bariatric Resource Services

With significant input from a panel of top clinical experts in the weight management and obesity field, we designed a program that offers support both before and after surgery.

Obesity is the root cause of many chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and asthma; and increases the likelihood of various types of cancers.

Because clinical outcomes of bariatric surgery vary widely, receiving services at a Bariatric Resource Services (BRS) Center of Excellence (COE) facility can help ensure that bariatric surgery and care are delivered in a manner that meets strict standards and increases the likelihood of superior outcomes and ultimately reduces costs.

Our BRS clinical team works to help individuals understand and manage the conditions associated with morbid obesity before and after surgery.  Successful weight loss is achieved through:

 - Guidance to Centers of Excellence network facilities, helping to better control the disparity of care and variability of surgical outcomes.

 - Multi-disciplinary bariatric clinical team approach.

 - Case management 6-months post-surgery to assess for complications and to reinforce lifestyle changes.

 - Behavioral support to reinforce lifestyle changes, nutrition, exercise, and encouragement to participate in bariatric support groups. Behavioral health support is coordinated with the client's behavioral health vendor.
